NEED WORK?

Who doesn't right now. The government is hiring at decent wages for work on the 2010 Census. 

In the Harris County / Houston area the pay is $17.75, not bad if you can get it. 

Simply call this number (1-866-861-2010) to set up an appointment. I did. 

They were very nice and I got an appointment a few days later. There is a 30 minute test, and some paperwork to fill out, total time about 2 hours. If there is work they could call you anytime.

H1N1 FACTS

There is a lot of fear out there about Swine Flu, or also known as the H1N1 virus. It is a dangerous flu, more so for children than healthy adults it seems. But instead of being afraid, get teh facts and know what to do. Symptoms of the flu are a lot like regualr flu symptoms. 

• fever, which is usually high, but unlike seasonal flu, is sometimes absent
• cough
• runny nose or stuffy nose
• sore throat
• body aches
• headache
• chills
• fatigue or tiredness, which can be extreme
• diarrhea and vomiting, sometimes, but more commonly seen than with seasonal flu

I know when I was sick, and my brother too, that they tested for swine flu right there at the pediatrics office by sticking a swab up our nose. We were lucky and did not have it, but if you do, chances are you will be just fine. Get plenty of rest and do what your doctor tells you.

STILL TIME TO HELP OUT IKE'S DAMAGE

 The Greater Houston area still has extensive damage and repair work is expected to be ongoing for atleast the next year.  As of October, 2009 there are still over 800 homes that need repairs.  The Greater Houston Long Term Recovery Committee (GHLTRC), which is a coalition of church, city, service and volunteer agencies, is looking for volunteers to help repair, paint & help move furniture in

Ike-damaged homes for low-income families, seniors and disabled people. These are deserving

homeowners who have no other means to repair or rebuild their homes.

Help Identify People Missing as a Result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita

In the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the U.S. Department of Justice has asked the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) to staff a hotline to take reports of missing children, missing adults, and found children.

If you are searching for someone who is missing or are caring for a child who is separated from his or her family, please call the Katrina/Rita Missing Persons Hotline at 1-888-544-5475.

I lost it...

Unfortunately, many of my posts and comments were lost when I switched over to Typepad from my old Blogger blog. From Katrina to Ike to be exact. I have to start all over, which is not a big deal as many of the links to volunteer opportunities are the same, but still, it would have been nice to have all the old stuff back.
